Musings

In recent times I have been working more and more with ASP.NET and was asked by a friend to relate my experiences (from a Delphi programmer's perspective) to my local Delphi User Group (the Australian Delphi User Group). I presented "Using C#, ASP.NET 2.0 and MySQL to create a data-driven website" at the monthly meeting on 19 Feb 2007 taking up the entire evening with what I had to say. I believe the presentation went very well (at least nobody left, or fell asleep). Click here to download a zip (~1.14MB) containing the PowerPoint presentation, an Adobe Acrobat tutorial, and the full source code for the demo application.

I certainly don't intend to turn this into a "show and tell" area, but I do want to mention a neat little PC I purchased recently to run as a DB server (running SQLServer, MySQL, Firebird, DBISAM and NexusDB servers at this stage .. all of which will be involved in Knowledge Base V2). At only 165mm x 50mm x 165mm (WxHxD) it is truely tiny and perches on top of my development machine looking much more like a modem, or external storage device than a fully functional PC. I really like its clean (almost minimalist) design too. Contrary to what all those spammer keep on telling us, smaller really is better in some cases. It is quiet (almost silent), and does exactly what I need without taking up valuable office space! Viva la AOpen Mini!

This is not an advertisement! I have no relationship with or interest in Blueant (http://www.myblueant.com/), but have recently purchased a Blueant SuperTooth II portable handsfree for my car. This is the coolest, zero installation handsfree gadget you will ever find. Leave your mobile (cellphone) in your pocket, the SuperTooth will connect automatically when it comes into range (10 metres). At a truely bargain price IMO this is a cannot do without accessory.
